2022 CIF State Swimming & Diving Championships

2022-23 CIF-State

CIF-State Recap:

We are currently sitting in a bus with the amazing Bus Driver, Rojelio, on our way back from Fresno. We brought our largest contingency to the CIF-State Competition ever and brought a boys team for the first time ever! The CIF-State Competition is the fastest high school competition in the United States (Probably the world), and just qualifying for this event is something to be proud of. Something else to be proud of… Dean’s Battle Cry.

Our relays swam in Prelims on Friday, and all performed admirably. Our Boys and Girls 200 Freestyle Relays both qualified for Finals today and had some insane swims! Our Girls 200 Freestyle Relay team of Phoebe Yeh, Julia Cho, Zara Masud, and Rin Hoshina put up the fastest WHS time since the 2017 swim season en route to a 9th Place finish in the state of California. Our boys 200 Freestyle Relay team of Jacob Wang, Evan Wang, Cole Saeger (prelims), Darius Walach (finals), and Kevin Guner were just off their season-best time en route to a 12th Place finish in the state of California. Additionally, Jacob Wang swam two individual events in the prelims and Zara Masud crushed it and made it into the Championship Final in her 200 Freestyle and 100 Butterfly, ultimately finishing in 5th Place (200 Free) and 6th Place (100 Butterfly).

Overall, our Girls Team finished tied for 13th Place in all of California and our Boys Team finished in 51st Place (For reference, there are nearly 4000 High Schools in all of California.

Congratulations to all of our State Team Competitors who came up to Fresno on Prom Weekend:

2022 Capo Valley Relay Invite

CONGRATSTO OUR AMAZING CAPO RELAY SWIMMERS! Our Frosh/Soph girls won their division with a bunch of first-place relays, and our team won the overall combined Championship! Prelim swimmers- thank you for helping us get into 27/28 “A” Finals and THANK YOU to everyone for not DQ’ing! We had ZERO DQ’s, ZERO Missed Races, and I’ve never been prouder of our amazing swimmers. Good job getting it done. Special shout-out to Ryan DeLand for ditching Water Polo and showing up this morning! You are appreciated.

2022 Irvine City Relay Championships

2022 Irvine City Relay Championships

SWIM SEASON IS UNDERWAY! BIG CONGRATULATIONS to our Woodbridge High School Girls Team for their 3rd Consecutive Irvine City Relays victory! It was an exceptionally close meet, but our girls got it done. (For those of you who think Northwood won… they didn’t. The points on SwimPhone are wrong and don’t include our amazing 3rd Place Girls JV Freestyle “A” Relay. + 10 Points to WHS… We win.

Our meet against Huntington Beach / Mater Dei had some amazing swims and some frustrating no-shows. The expectation is that, unless you have some sort of emergency, you either show up to the meets or communicate with me beforehand. To those of you who filled out the form- thank you. For those of you who failed to show up to go surfing- you led to several relays having to scratch and many open lanes. If you are not committed to participating in swim season, please drop the class so that we can get students who care and want to compete into events. That said- lots of fast swims and swim season is looking GREAT moving forward! Our guys almost broke a team record in the first meet of the season in the 200 Medley Relay, and our girls Varsity team had many standout swims! Additionally, we had several swimmers compete in their FIRST EVER swim meet! If you swam in a meet for the first time, GREAT JOB getting it done. Many more opportunities will present themselves this season!
